HOW WE HELP

At Williamsburg Myofunctional & Oral Health, we have highly trained myofunctional therapists who will work with your specific needs to strengthen and improve the function of your bite. Our expert care providers receive specialized training in myofunctional therapy and oral myofunctional disorders as part of a rigorous continuing education program. Studies show that correcting bad oral habits early on can dramatically improve speech, eating/chewing and dental problems.

The goal of myofunctional therapy is to eliminate all of the symptoms of OMDs (Oral Myofunctional Disorders).

How we help is with exercises are designed to:

  • Increase awareness of tongue position
  • Coordinate facial and oral muscles so the cheek, lip and jaw muscles work together
  • Improve the function of your bite and jaw alignment
  • Retrain muscles to improve eating, drinking, swallowing, breathing and articulation

By repeating the exercises given to you by our therapist, the muscles of your face, tongue, lips and throat will strengthen, improving muscle tone and coordination.
